Five Tips For Sales And Marketing Alignment

Delivering Sales and Marketing Alignment

When there is no sales and marketing alignment, your customer suffers. Marketing is constantly blamed for delivering no value or return on investment. They are perceived as the collateral department and everything they do is seen as an expense. And sales attempts to hit their targets their own way and anyway they can; sometimes at the expense of your company values and ethics.

Here are five tips to deliver a winning sales and marketing alignment strategy in your organisation:

1 – Meet regularly

Have a sales and marketing meeting with all key personnel involved. In order to support sales, marketing needs to share processes, resources, and best practices. Use this time to get to know each other and share how marketing will be supporting the sales team. Hold a monthly meeting to set these expectations and field any questions new people might have. This is the job of marketing.

2 – Marketing to attend sales weekly meetings

Attend weekly sales meetings will allow marketers to know how sales are performing, for you to offer support when needed. Use this time to share upcoming campaigns, content, and offers you will be promoting that week. Also, have five-minute brainstorm sessions to uncover new ideas and recommendations for your future work.

3 – Visit customers together

This will provide a unique opportunity to gather customer and market insights. Listen to understand, and work together to put the customer first.

4 – Design your marketing campaigns with the help of sales

It’s important to keep the sales team engaged and up-to-date with new campaigns. Ask for feedback before launching so they feel part of the process.

5 – Have some fun

Finally, some of the most important advice is to try to get to know each other as people and have some fun. Get to know your sales team outside of the traditional work environment. Organise drinks, coffee sessions, lunches, and outings. This helps build trust among team members and ensures that people feel comfortable leaning on each other for support.
