Building a social media strategy is not easy. Staying disciplined, creative and customer-driven is the key. When done well you will be well on your way to creating even deeper customer relationships, improving customer engagement, and ultimately delivering sales growth.

Here are 5 key steps to help create a winning social media strategy:

Step 1 : Understand Your Customers

The opinions, interests, and values of your customers will matter most to what you aim to deliver.

  • Why do your customers want to learn?
  • How important is your product or service?
  • How does your customer like to learn and get their information?
  • What questions do your customers typically have about your offerings?
  • And how knowledgeable are they about your product or service?

This understanding will help you move to the next step to create your content with clear connections back to your markets, target audience and customers.

Step 2 : Create Your Content

Now that you have a better understanding of your customers and target segment, it’s time to build your content. There’s no golden rule for how much content you should share. Make it meaningful and memorable.

Tailor your content to make your customer the “hero” of your storytelling. This is your opportunity to engage and build a following. Think about communicating with relevant, useful and engaging content.

Step 3 : Identify the right channels

The exposure you have will depend on the channels you identify to share your content on. Don’t be concerned with vanity metrics (number of likes). Build your followers slowly and with purpose.

Step 4 : Automate Success

Be consistent and determined. Automate quickly and use the tools available to execute your strategy.

Step 5 : Measure and Improve

To determine what’s working you need to monitor your efforts, test, and improve. Test different types of content regularly. Revise your strategy to improve your results.
